BKLL 2020 Season Update 5/15/20

Dear BKLL Families,

I hope this message finds you all healthy safe. The spring weather is finally warming up and we all have baseball and softball on our minds. I want to give you a brief update on the status of the spring 2020 Little League baseball and softball season.

Clearly, the May 11th date has passed and due to the state of events happening in New Jersey, organized sports are not occurring at this time. Little League International has cancelled the Little League World Series for the 2020 season. All national and regional tournaments have been postponed as well.

Little League is encouraging local leagues across the nation and world to have a baseball and softball season, if possible. Each state and region is in a different stage of “Opening.” Some parts of the country will be playing baseball and softball sooner than others. District 14 and NJ Little League officials have been meeting and planning scenarios to do just that. The plan is to still have a district and state tournament for at least the Majors Division (12U) and Senior Division. These plans are contingent on the season beginning before July 15th. Local leagues are hoping to have a regular season for all age groups. With all that said, it will be decided by the state and local governments to when it is safe to resume organized sports. BKLL will be eagerly waiting on directive as to when this date may be. Our priority continues to keep our children and families safe. However, we also believe if it is deemed safe to play a season, it’s our responsibility to bring baseball, softball, and T-Ball to all of you.

We should know in the next few weeks the fate of the 2020 Little League season. My hope is we will be able to offer a season. In the event we do need to cancel the 2020 season, we will then send out information regarding your spring 2020 registration fees and options.

As I receive updates, I will share them with you all. I urge you to continue practicing those baseball and softball skills as a family. Keep updated on BKLL.com, Littleleague.org, and on our Facebook page - Blackwood Kiwanis Little League. Thank you for your patience. I truly appreciate the support you have been providing to BKLL. Please stay well and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Stay Well,
Brad Morris, BKLL President
